Minor space upgrades include interior suite and office painting, carpet replacement, furniture and lock upgrades, etc. Units are encouraged to manage minor space upgrades for their space. Any scope requiring modification of the building or its systems requires a more involved project process through FDM. Please consult our office if your department is considering a project of significant scope. ASU Purchasing best practice is to solicit multiple quotes from approved vendors prior to contracting the work. Please remember that ASU Purchasing requires an approved asbestos clearance prior to processing a purchase order for any work involving disturbed wall, floor and ceiling surfaces (i.e. window coverings, painting, flooring, etc.). You can submit an Asbestos Review request using the FDM service portal. Any areas identified to have hazardous materials may not be modified and will require abatement by ASU prior to servicing. Abatement would be the fiscal responsibility of the project owner.

Painting

Paint samples

Refresh paint of interior suites and offices is permitted. No alterations by departments to public facing spaces is allowed. Any painting requires asbestos clearance. All paint is to match existing field colors. Please contact our office to confirm building standard colors if you are unsure of the existing standard. Leftover paint can be stored for up to five years for use in minor touch ups.

Furniture upgrades

Open Office

ASU works with approved vendors who can help you with furniture upgrades to your interior suite, office and conference room spaces. When looking to upgrade or replace systems furnishings (office furniture, workstations, panels, etc.), please note that each building has a furniture standard that should be adhered to when making selections. We have paired some buildings to allow for exchange of inventory at little or no cost to units. Signature pieces for conference rooms or other spaces can be purchased off the standard. We encourage units to purchase from one of our approved vendors as they provide high-quality furniture and comprehensive warranties. In addition to furnishing vendor design services, our office is available to assist in space planning for new office configurations as needed and in accordance with ASU space standards and design guidelines. Please consult our office for requests to reconfigure furniture arrangements that connect to building systems.
