Projects and space planning

Our office supports the planning and execution of projects at the direction of the University. Projects are developed and executed collaboratively with various stakeholders from the President's office, FDM and The College. Chairs and Directors requesting projects or project assistance are encouraged to consult with our office.

Projects related to new hires and initiatives are provided and prioritized by the deans. Additional projects should be submitted for consideration by the director or chair of the department to the Associate Dean of Facilities. If approved, our space planners will work to program and design test sketches for the project.  Once the preliminary design, budget and funding have been approved, the project is submitted to the Work Induction Board. Project administration is assigned to a FDM group for follow up and execution. Timelines can vary greatly depending on scope and existing building conditions.

Departments are responsible for ensuring effective use of their space. Space assignments should be made in accordance with university guidelines (see below).  All new projects and requests for space will adhere to the most recent iteration of ASU's space standards. Our office will handle requests for space management and planning assistance at the direction of the deans and University Space Planner's office. It is important for departments to complete the annual space survey (09/17/24 - 12/06/24) with complete and accurate information to confirm use of space.

Minor upgrades

Conference Furniture

As FDM project management teams serve clients and groups across the university, timelines for projects can become affected due to competing needs and access to resources. We encourage our units to handle minor projects internally. Minor projects, such as furniture, paint and carpet, do not require any infrastructure modifications and can be executed successfully by units. See our minor upgrades page (linked below) for more information. For more complex projects that your unit plans to fund, please consult our office to determine the best way to initiate your projects.
